SINGERS NEEDED!
We need singers at all Masses! You don’t have to be a virtuoso. You don’t even have to know how to read music. Our choirs are fun and welcoming, and you can come to a rehearsal without committing.

Music is essential to the Catholic Liturgy. It is important that music be a part of every Sunday and holy-day Mass. “A liturgical service takes on a nobler aspect when the rites are celebrated with singing, the sacred ministers take their parts in them, and the faithful actively participate.” Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, art 113.

The important roles of music are:

to encourage the faithful to participate,
to encourage those musically inclined to join the ministry,
to provide quality, liturgically appropriate music at every Sunday and holy-day liturgy, and for the sacraments, such as First Communion and Confirmation,
to make available music for important occasions, such as weddings and funerals.

Should you consider joining the Music Ministry?

If you are unsure of your musical ability but would like to be a part of the ministry, Joseph invites you to contact him and set up an appointment. He will help you determine where your talent lies, and what you might do to develop it. Even if you’re not ready to join, we encourage you to spend a few minutes with Joseph. You might enjoy a few tips for singing from the pews. Maybe you’d like to learn an instrument, but don’t know where to begin. He can point you in the right direction.

Variety of Music:

Our Sunday liturgies vary in their musical flavor. The Sunday 5:00 p.m. Mass is more contemporary, with drums and bass guitar. At other masses, the music is more traditional. However, we do our best to maintain consistency between all liturgies, using the same service music and responses, and most of the same hymns. After all, we are all a part of the same faith community!

Music for weddings and funerals

Music for any liturgy at Our Lady of the Snows must be reviewed by Joseph, the Director of Music Ministries. Joseph can also help you find professional singers and musicians to provide music for your event.

CANTOR CERTIFICATION

Joseph DeRosa, our Director of Music, has received his final certificate for “advanced skills for service as a cantor and psalmist at the Sacred Liturgy in the Roman Catholic Church.” This is a national 3-tier program administered by the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, which Joseph began in 2011. It entails knowledge of liturgy, vocal technique and music theory. Congratulations, Joseph!
