On June 11, 2016, we will be celebrating the 15th birthday of Breana at the 5:00 p.m. mass. The Quinceanera plays a very important role in the Mexican-American culture. Quinceanera is a celebration of Breana’s baptism, and the promises once made by her parents Monica and Fernando Vazquez and Godparents, are promises for which she, as a young adult, chooses to take responsibility. Breana, as a young woman, chooses to deepen her relationship with the God who loves her, and with the support of family and friends, chooses to live as God calls her to. Quinceanera is a rite of passage. Breana has chosen cousins to walk with her and to support her decision. These persons will treat her with dignity and respect in a world that does not hold these gifts sacred. Breana has several Godparents for this occasion, besides helping her spiritually, they help the family with the financial part of the Quinceanera. The gifts brought up at the Presentation of Gifts will include a bible, rosary, and flowers. The flowers will be presented to Blessed Mother after communion accompanied by her brothers, Fernando and Aaron. The bible and rosary are gifts that Breana will use often in her prayer. On this day, we have the honor of witnessing Breana’s commitment to God, and to what God calls her to do, and to live; and we by our presence, and hopefully, our prayer, support her in her commitment to live as God’s daughter. We are celebrating, as a church community, God’s Yes to Breana as she gives herself more fully to live God’s call for her…. |
