BAPTISM OF INFANTS

The Sacrament of Baptism

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word. “Catechism of the Catholic Church 1213” 

 

Baptism Class is required for those families wishing to have their infants or young children baptized. We are offering these classes on the 2nd Monday of each month. Godparents are also encouraged to attend.
 



Please call the office at 775-323-6894 to sign up and to be sent the Zoom link. If your child is in 3rd grade or older, call Lauri-Anne Reinhart at 329-6147.

 

If you are an ADULT who wishes to be Baptized as Catholic, we welcome you into the OCIA process (formerly RCIA). This will require a 2 year process of catechesis and formation, after which persons are Baptized, Confirmed and receive first communion at the Easter Vigil.  Contact Karen Totten if interested. POLICY FOR INFANT BAPTISMS

  1. Parents of the children are expected to be active members of the parish.
  2. If a Parent wishes to baptize a child at Our Lady of the Snows, but attends another parish either within the diocese or within another diocese, a letter of permission from your pastor must be sent to Our Lady Snows Parish before the baptism can be celebrated.
  3.  Godparents for Baptism must fulfill the following:
    1. Be Baptized Catholic, received first communion and confirmation
    2. If Married, must be married in the Catholic Church
    3. Single persons are allowed to be godparents
  4. Baptisms will be celebrated during the Sunday Masses throughout the year, with the exception of the Lenten season.
