Feb 14 begins the season of Lent. 40 days traditionally given for Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving, with the goal of helping us to fully celebrate the Easter Holy Days.
It is a time of renewal, a time to make changes; a season to open ourselves to change through the Grace of God.
Suggestions:
Fasting: Consider fasting not just from food and drink, but from certain behaviors. Fast from being overly critical, from social media, from noise and music in the car. Fast from eating at restaurants and stay home with the family and cook meals together.
Prayer: Consider not praying more, but with higher quality, with intention and focus. Consider opening yourself to new prayer forms: journaling, contemplating sacred Scripture, meditation.
Almsgiving: Consider how much money is spent on going out for coffee, ice cream, booze, restaurants, and then reduce that amount and give that to charity or to the parish. Take one of the "Rice Bowls" and help fight hunger in our world. Give time to those who need more; spouse, child, parent, or friend.

Each year the Diocese of Reno has its annual appeal to raise the necessary funds for the various ministries, e.b. Youth and Young Adult, Vocations, Religious Education.
Each parish is assessed a goal to raise (ours is $168,000). Anything over that goal is 90% returned back to the parish to use as they need. 10% of the Rebates goes to assist those parishes that struggle financially.
Our Lady of the Snows for years has great exceeded our goals and earned nice rebates which have been used to build up our building fund and our sister parish fund. WE WANT TO CONTINUE OUR SUCCESS! So we ask all parishioners to make the pledge. Any gift from 1$ and more helps. We would love more and more people to contribute to this worthwhile endeavor.

The parish is in need of some volunteers to help at the parish office. We need people to please come in for an hour in order to give our front office staff a lunch break. You can come in between the hours of 11:00 am and 1:00 pm for a one hour block of time. It requires minimal experience and you will be trained on how to answer the phones and use of office equipment. If you would like to volunteer please contact Shauna Meyers at 775-323-6894 or email at shauna@olsparish.com. Thanks for your consideration.
